Hastelloy® ALLOY G30/ G35
HASTELLOY G-30 is an improved version of nickel-chromium-iron molybdenum-copper alloy G-3. With higher chromium, added cobalt and tungsten the nickel HASTELLOY G-30 shows superior corrosion resistance over most other nickel and iron based alloys in commercial phosphoric acids as well as complex environments containing highly oxidizing acids such as nitric/hydrochloric, nitric/hydrofluoric and sulfuric acids. HASTELLOY G-30 resists the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the heat-affected zone, making it suitable in the as-welded condition.
HASTELLOY G-30 is basically the same as other high alloys in regard to formability. It is generally stiffer than an austenitic. Because of its good ductility, cold working is relatively easy and is the preferred method of forming. The alloy is easily weldable using Gas-Tungsten Arc, Gas Metal Arc and shielded Metal Arc. The welding characteristics are similar to those of G-3.
HASTELLOY® G-35® alloy (UNS N06035) was designed to resist “fertilizer-grade” phosphoric acid (P2O5), which is used in the production of fertilizers. Tests in real-world solutions indicate that G-35® alloy is far superior to other metallic materials in this acid. It was also designed to resist localized attack in the presence of chlorides, since this can be a problem beneath deposits in evaporators used to concentrate “fertilizer-grade” phosphoric acid. HASTELLOY® G-35® alloy is available in the form of plates, sheets, strips, billets, bars, wires, pipes, tubes, and covered electrodes.

HASTELLOY(r) G30(r) alloy can be machined using conventional techniques employed for iron based alloys. The quality of the alloy can be improved with the utilization of water-base coolants. Heavy duty machining tools and equipment can be used prior to cutting in order to reduce chattering or work-hardening of the alloy.
HASTELLOY(r) G30(r) alloy can be formed through conventional forming methods.
Welding of HASTELLOY(r) G30(r) alloy is performed through commonly used welding techniques like gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal-arc welding, metal-arc welding and submerged-arc welding. However, an alloy filler metal that suits this alloy should be used.
HASTELLOY(r) G30(r) alloy is capable of being annealed. However, this alloy must be solution-annealed after hot forming in order to restore its resistance to corrosion.
As HASTELLOY(r) G30(r) alloy has good ductile property, it can be forged easily.
HASTELLOY(r) G30(r) alloy can be cold worked using standard tooling methods. As plain carbon steels produce galling, they are not preferred for forming HASTELLOY(r) G30(r) alloy. Galling can be minimized with the help of heavy duty lubricants.
HASTELLOY(r) G30(r) alloy can be annealed at 1177ºC (2150ºF) followed by rapid cooling of air and water quenching.
HASTELLOY(r) G30(r) alloy can be hardened by cold working.
